How would it happen?

All UK schools and communities would be delivered comprehensive and proven bullying prevention programmes year on year. They will empower young people to lead anti-bullying campaigns in their schools and local communities and then build the capacity of local communities to sustain the work and take it forward. 

Pupils, teaching professionals, parents, faith and community leaders, Children’s Services, LEAs, trade unions and businesses would all be involved. Critically, there are other charities like Beatbullying, other childrens charities and organisations in the UK that are tooled up and ready to deliver this for children and families across the UK today.

Outcomes for Pupils

  1. Peer to peer activism programmes in all UK schools
  2. Hundreds of thousands of peer activists trained to support other young people
  3. Peer listening / Peer mentoring across all UK schools
  4. Listening skills, mediation, conflict resolution and anger management programmes as standard
  5. Specific proven intervention and re-education programmes for young people that bully
  6. Use of the on-line bullying prevention mentoring scheme
  7. Developing support networks to sustain the work in their schools

Teaching professionals comprehensively trained in

  1. Intervention and prevention techniques
  2. Understanding indicators, signs and symptoms
  3. Relating bullying and truancy
  4. Working with victims/working with bullies
  5. Engaging with parents
  6. Using the e-mentoring scheme
  7. Training their colleagues in effective prevention techniques
  8. The methodology of tracking the reduction of bullying in their school

Governors would also comprehensively trained and supported.   

Parents would understand and receive

  1. Training on how to spot bullying
  2. Signs and symptoms work
  3. Advice on helping their child stay safe
  4. Advice on raising the issue with schools
  5. Information on complaints procedures, their rights, and appeals
  6. A general understanding of mediation
  7. On-line information material
  8. Parents’ booklets / literature

All local communities would be provided with

  • The tools to design, deliver and sustain an effective and efficient inter-agency response to bullying prevention, which will make a difference across localities, boroughs and communities.
