About Beatbullying

Founded in 1999, Beatbullying empowers young people to lead anti-bullying campaigns in their schools and local communities, and builds the capacity of local communities to sustain the work. Beatbullying have directly worked with 500,000+ young people
over the last 3 years, assisting and supporting young people that are being bullied, re-educating and changing the behaviour of young people that bully and preventing bullying and child-on-child violence in schools and communities across the UK.

When Beatbullying intervenes, our independently proven prevention model will reduce incidents of bullying by an average of 39% in UK schools; the reporting of bullying and child on child violence goes up by 60% as young people feel more able to seek help.

Beatbullying was named UK Charity of the Year in 2006 and Charity of the Year and Children’s Charity of the Year in 2005. Beatbullying’s website for young people The BBClic www.bbclic.com was named one of the top three charity websites in the world at the 2005 Webby Awards.

In March of this year, Beatbullying took its highly successful model online with CyberMentors cybermentors.org.uk - a peer mentoring social networking site that allows young people to mentor and support each other. It is delivering a much needed service to some of the most vulnerable and marginalised young people across the UK and is leading the sector in terms of digital volunteering, digital counselling and online service provision.

The mission of Beatbullying is to create a world where bullying is unacceptable. The vision of the organisation is that by 2017 it will have established:

  • A presence in 400 boroughs
  • 68,000 peer mentors
  • 20,000 partner organisations
  • 10,000,000 young people involved

What this means in practice is rolling out the Beatbullying model to as many schools as possible to cover the greatest geographical area.

BBArt

With the help of artist Janette Parris Beatbullying have devised an exciting, interactive new workshop to deliver our bullying prevention work: BBArt

Art is a fantastic way of engaging young people affected by bullying, with no 'right or wrong', and no language or academic barriers, art has the potential to engage all young people, allowing them to express their feelings and experiences of bullying.

The first workshop will take place on 27 August at Beaconsfield Art Space through the kind donation of Patrick Brill’s (aka Bob and Roberta Smith) own studio.

We believe...

Beatbullying believes that bullying contradicts the basic British values of fair play, social justice, aspiration, opportunity, respect - it is something the whole nation must act collectively to eradicate, so we can really support the millions of young people who lie in bed at night terrified to go to school the next morning.

Young people who are being bullied at school are not able to make the most of themselves and their talents, because their ability to learn, to contribute, to be happy and just be a child, is undermined and sometimes lost forever by bullying.

The introduction of progressive bullying prevention programmes in the UK will reduce bullying, reduce truancy levels, increase attainment and reduce the incidents of racist and homophobic violence and abuse in our schools.
