I'm Laurienne and I'm an apprentice Development Officer.

I am part of the development team, building partnerships, setting up venues and workshops and most importantly, I work with young people on the ground.

To give you a better idea, I helped young people involved in the Croydon Streetwise panel put together the campaign for this website on sexual bullying.

Apprenticeships

BB Apprenticeships are high quality, Beatbullying-based training programmes for young adults between the age of 16 to 19, who want to develop their prospects and career in the charity sector, learn big time, take some responsibility, have some fun and want to get on in life.

BB Apprenticeships are a way for young people to earn a wage whilst learning about working with young people, working for a charity, studying for qualifications and generally starting to get to know the world of work.

BB has seven types of Apprenticeship schemes:

  • working with young people
  • working with young people through sport
  • counselling young people
  • public relations
  • finance and administration
  • fundraising
  • web development and design

BB Apprenticeships are not for everyone. If you are thinking of applying, first you will need to decide which career suits you best. You will then need to decide whether you can juggle working for an employer one day, then studying for a qualification at a college (for example) the next.

If you have the determination to do well in the world of work, and you're not afraid to commit yourself to long-term training and studying (one to five years!), then a BB Apprenticeship could be for you.

Apprenticeships are high-quality training programmes for those who want to develop their prospects and career.

If you are successful in securing a BB Apprenticeship, you will:

  • earn real wages: the wage for BB Apprentices is £200 per week
  • gain new qualifications
  • gain knowledge and key skills
  • join a team who will support and assist you all they can
  • join a team which knows what it is like to be a young adult and will trust you and try their best to earn your respect
  • be allocated a mentor
  • have some fun, because work can be also be fun.

You will need to think carefully about your career and the field of work in which you wish to train.
The right type of BB Apprenticeship for you depends upon:

  • your personality
  • your interests and hobbies
  • your talents and skills
  • your ambition
  • being pretty sure you want to work for a charity.
