The bullying prevention model is researched and written up with 100 young people from three London boroughs.
EJC our founder has a eureka moment and comes up with the name Beatbullying.
2000
Beatbullying is registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee.
HSBC offers us a £10,000 overdraft on our business plan.
Beatbullying’s first office is opened – it’s a pasting table in a flat in Catford.
2001
Beatbullying receives start up peppercorn funding from London Councils (formerly the Association of London Government). How brilliant are LC, they take a risk on a business plan.
2002
Our offices expand! We now work out of a 6 x 12 room in house in Lewisham.
Beatbullying registers as a Charity, demented fundraising begins in earnest.
Beatbullying secures funding from the Big Lottery to pilot our bullying prevention model in six London Boroughs. They find us after our first application...rock on Big Lottery!
2003
This moving malarkey is getting dull, Beatbullying moves to four rooms on the second floor of a house in Hither Green.
Our interim evaluation results are published. We are reducing bullying by up to 48% in our pilot areas.
2004
Our interactive web site for young people bbclic.com is launched. To date our suite of web sites have received five million unique users.
2005
How cool, Beatbullying has a real office in Crystal Palace!
Beatbullying is named Charity of the Year and Children’s Charity of the Year at the Charity Awards. Stunned silence from staff, we thought we were making up the numbers!
Beatbullying is runner-up in the non-profit category at the Webby Awards – considered the Oscars of the Internet. We are too poor to go to New York though...
2006
www.bbclic.com is named winner of the best use of new media category at the UK Charity Awards. Sarah, BB’s Director of New Media, gets mobbed by BB staff.
Beatbullying named Charity of the Year at the UK Charity Awards. Twice in two years... get away! What is now called the “BB bundle” ensues in front 2000 of our peers...20 grown adults go mental.
BBSports, BBInterfaith, BBTunes are developed, piloted and launched.
In April, Jarvis the cocker spaniel and office dog joins the team.
2007
BB publishes the results of 200 schools based BB Mentors programmes. Bullying is being reduced by an average of 43%, at its best it reduces bullying by 80%. The Programme is also reducing truancy by an average of 21%.
We are now a team of 20, Beatbullying moves offices again! This is getting ridiculous...
The 4QuidAKid campaign is launched with the News of The World. The campaign asks the Government to commit to spending four pounds per child to fund bullying prevention work across the UK.
Gordon Brown attends BB’s Big Stand and spends two hours with BB Mentors and our CEO, Emma-Jane. That afternoon, No.11 announces to the NOTW “they intend to” and there is a “general desire” to roll out BB’s bullying prevention programmes across more schools
