86% of young people taking part in BBSports feel it has hugely increased their confidence
BBSports is a six stage bullying prevention and comprehensive team sports mentoring model with a clearly defined pathway towards peer to peer empowerment, building emotionally literate and resilient young people.
The BBSports programme offers young people a progressive and fully participative opportunity as a team to address bullying, understand the underlying causes, effects and consequences of bullying and child on child violence through the clever and engaging use of team sports activities, conflict resolution, behaviour diversion techniques and development of key peer mentoring skills.
Using team sports encourages young people, who might not want to deal with bullying issues elsewhere, to discuss their experiences in familiar and more dynamic settings and scenarios.
The programme is innovative in that it combines teamwork in a fun, safe and healthy way to encourage young people to develop their own strategies around anti-bullying work. The project encourages young people to work together in teams to tackle bullying. Experience of working in teams can develop confidence and self-esteem, and help young people see how damaging bullying can be to a team and an individual.
BBSports develops emotionally resilient young people who will be skilled enough to cascade their learning through their peer groups and communities. Sports-based scenarios that explore bullying reinforce young people’s understanding of the problem. As a result, young people will have a better understanding of bullying and how it can affect them and those around them. They will have an increased awareness of bullying and how to prevent it and a greater understanding of the importance of equal participation, inclusive play and activity participation.
