Music artist Basshunter: 'I was bullied'

16 July 2008

Jonas Altberg also known as music artist 'Basshunter' has revealed that bullies targeted him in school because he suffers from Tourette’s syndrome.

"I did have a really rough time in school. There was alot of bullying, I didn’t have many friends and spent alot of time alone."

Jonas gets to have the last laugh this week as he looks set to take the number one position in the UK album charts and has finally learned how to control his illness.

“You could spend a week with me, 24/7 and not know I have it. I've learned how to feel when it's coming and push it back... That took years of training."

Doctors from across the globe hope to use Jonas' methods of controlling his Tourette’s syndrome to help their patients overcome their disability.

"Don't see it as a problem, see it as a challenge" Jonas added.

Beatbullying’s BBTunes programme uses  music, sound, rhythm and song writing as engagement tools to empower those determined to be hard to reach, with low self-esteem and confidence, abilities that were deliberately hidden as a result of being bullied and those for whom bullying was the only form of expression.
