Nursery children to be reported for racist bullying

08 July 2008

A Government funded advisory group have suggested that children as young as three years old should be taught about racism and be singled out for displaying racist attitues and bullying.

Pre-school staff have been instructed to report every racist incident and nurseries are encouraged to report as many of these incidents as possible to their local council. Incidents could include using words like 'blackie', 'those people' or 'they smell'.

The guide entitled 'Young Children and Racial Justice' states that 'racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-callinhs-casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships.

Critics have lablled the guide as 'totalitarian', "Stepping into stop severe bullying is one thing, but this is interference in the lives of children".
