Campaigning

At least 20 children every year commit suicide because they are being bullied

And this figure in reality is probably far higher*. How many more children have to die before we do anything and take responsibility as a society?

At Beatbullying, we are campaigning to shape attitudes and change behaviours around the issue of bullying. We believe that bullying contradicts the basic British values of fair play, of social justice, of aspiration, of opportunity and of respect, and we have to work hard to influence public and social policy to that effect.

What we know to be true

Research, policy and practice underpin our campaigning activities. All our work is consistently monitored and evaluated and leads to a deep understanding of the best ways in which to prevent bullying amongst our young people. We can then develop policy and best practice in our field and make sure that the public and government understand the facts and the best way to implement anti-bullying strategies in our schools and communities.

Lobbying government is a key part of our campaigning work. Armed with effective solutions, we seek to influence public policy and the legislative process at the highest possible level, in an attempt to secure a safer future for the young people of this country.

But does it work?

Yes, it does. Beatbullying's 4 Quid A Kid campaign for example, has successfully applied pressure on the Government to allocate significant resources to anti-bullying prevention schemes and peer mentoring in schools and in the community. As a result, the Government has invested millions of pounds in schemes to be piloted across the UK to test the efficacy of work like Beatbullying's.

How can I get involved?

There are so many ways you can campaign with Beatbullying. You can take part in The Big Stand, support BBMentors in your school and community or become a CyberMentor. If you'd like to know more about campaigning with us, email info@beatbullying.org

*Incredibly, there are no official statistics on the number of young people who have committed suicide due to having been systematically bullied. This figure has been pulled from media reports of such deaths, although at Beatbullying we suspect this figure is far higher.
