The Big Stand

The Big Stand is now an annual event which takes place in May. It is an event which asks every person in the UK, both young people and adults, to create the world’s biggest stand – as a national sign of defiance against bullying and solidarity with the millions of young people being bullied.

Each year, the Big Stand gets bigger and better and reached new heights in 2007 with Gordon Brown taking part in the national Big Stand event which was held at St John's Primary School in Croydon. The launch event itself was a fantastic success with Kelly Holmes, Hazel Blears and the parents of Ben Vodden in attendance and covered by much of the UK media and even other European TV crews.

In schools and workplaces

The Big Stand is a great way for schools and workplaces to show solidarity with the millions of young people being bullied every day. For schools, it is great in many ways; for raising awareness, running workshops and activities on the day, fundraising and campaigning. Workplaces similarly tend to use the day for fundraising and awareness-raising.

This year, we'll be hoping for video footage of your Big Stand! So get out your video cameras and start practising - it's not easy getting footage of hundreds of people all at once! Keep an eye on the Big Stand website in early May - we'll start announcing events, fundraising details and promotions, so be prepared!
