Key Stage Programmes

KS1 Programme

The workshops will involve singing new and exciting songs, playing fun games involving music, rhythm work to include recording of sounds, setting up a classroom percussion area and composing a dance piece using simple movement patterns. The workshops will end with a performance of their finished dance and original musical piece.

There will be many opportunities for the children to talk about what they like and dislike, to share their opinions, to think about themselves and learn from their experiences and recognise what they are good at and how to set simple goals for themselves. Children will also be involved in discussions about simple rules, they will learn about choices and recognise the difference between right and wrong. As the workshops develop through music and dance the children are also taught how to make simple choices that improve their overall health and wellbeing.

KS2 Programme

The workshops will involve singing new and popular songs, an introduction to song-writing, music composition and music technology. Children will have the opportunity to create their own group ‘friendship/anti-bullying’ themed song and record it using the latest up-to-date technology. They will then perform their finished work to the rest of the school during a special assembly and be able to download their work from the BBTunes website for free.

During the course of the workshops there will be many opportunities for the children to talk and write about their opinions and explain their view on ‘bullying’ and how it affects themselves and society. The children will recognise their own worth as individuals by identifying positive things about themselves and their achievements. They will also realise the consequences of anti-social and aggressive behaviour such as bullying on individuals and communities. Children will learn that their actions affect themselves and others, to care about other people’s feelings and to try and see things from their point of view. They will also be able to reflect on the consequences of bullying and aggressive behaviours and know how to respond to them and ask for help.

KS3 Programme

Young people will build on existing musical knowledge to create their own songs or musical soundscapes that have evolved as a result of discussion and debate centred around bullying. They will further their understanding of songwriting, music composition and performance from KS2. They will gain knowledge on how to use music programmes and simple recording techniques effectively. The workshops will end with a celebration concert for their family, teachers and peers showcasing their finished works.

The children will have opportunities to take part in individual and group discussions centred around bullying and have time to reflect on this in relation to their own lives and behaviour. This series of workshops will leave the young people with the knowledge and skills needed for setting realistic targets and personal goals. They will learn about the impact of bullying on individuals and communities. They will work as members of groups and teams taking on different roles and responsibilities. They will be able to evaluate their own personal development and learning. The young people will also be able to identify sources of help and support and take responsibility for providing accurate information to others.
