Beatbullying is concerned about the welfare and safety of all young people that it works with. We believe all children have the absolute right to be safe, and as adults, we are responsible to make sure that they are.
In both our offline and online programmes, we are providing a safe space, an environment in which young people feel secure, valued, listened to, supported and are taken seriously. As such, the disclosure of information about a young person, whilst necessary in some situations, is kept to a minimal where possible.
However, at all times the safety of young people is our top priority. We have put in place training, procedures and protocols to support Beatbullying staff, its Therapeutic Services team, CyberMentors and volunteer Counsellors in their understanding of what they need to know and need to do in the event of a disclosure made by a young person either offline or through the CyberMentors website and its online communication functions.
Bullying and child-on-child violence is a clear safeguarding issue for young people in our society today and as our mission states, we are striving to create a world where bullying, violence and harassment are unacceptable. However, as we work towards our goal, we come into contact with some of the most marginalised and vulnerable young people in our communities and it our duty as a children's charity to support and assist them in the most responsible and professional way that we can.
Beatbullying works closely in partnership with agencies like CEOP (in the reporting of grooming and internet safety concerns) and Local Safeguarding Boards. Our approach is stringent, sensitive and wherever possible, consensual.
