My child...

My child is training to become a Mentor

What’s involved?
  • Your child will attend a one- or two-day mentor training course at their school, college, youth group or  a regional training session. They will have been given a consent form with information for you to read and sign.
  • The training is facilitated by at least two members of BeatBullying staff, with up to date CRB checks and extensive experience of working with young people and dealing with sensitive topics.
  • The training will enable your child to become a peer mentor on the BeatBullying website, and become a peer mentor face to face in their school.
  • In the training they will discuss what bullying and cyberbullying is, effects and consequences of bullying, digital citizenship, safety plans, mentoring skills, boundaries, confidentiality and child protection.Your child can contact members of BeatBullying staff through the website if they are stuck or have any questions.
  • After the training, your child will be equipped with tools to keep themselves and other young people safe from bullying and be able to mentor on the BeatBullying website. They should also graduate and receive a certificate, badges and business cards.

What’s the commitment?
  • The amount of time your child commits to online mentoring is up to them. We recommend around one hour a week, although this is very flexible. We know that young people need to balance their online life with real life, and the commitment is flexible to allow this to happen.
  • Your child’s school may decide to set up an allocated room at break or lunchtime for your child to mentor at school. You can get in touch with the lead teacher for BeatBullying at your child’s school for information.

Contact us:
If you cannot get hold of the lead teacher of your child’s school and you have any questions or queries, you can contact the BeatBullying team on 020 8771 3377.

The wellbeing of our mentors is always a priority and we are happy to discuss your child’s role with you and answer any questions you may have.

My child is under 11 years old

BeatBullying provides support to young people aged 11-17. If your child is aged 10 or under there is information for parents on our sister site MiniMentors.

Someone Who Inspires Me

I know myself how hard it is to deal with social anxiety, so I admire her for being able to deal with it and give advice to ...
