About Beatbullying Wales

Beatbullying is the UK’s leading bullying prevention charity. Founded in 1999, our national awareness campaigns have gained significant support from many teachers and students in Wales who have expressed their desire to have Beatbullying deliver our bullying prevention work in their schools.  And so, led by our Welsh patron Joe Calzaghe - who has himself spoken powerfully about his own terrifying experience of bullying - we have a committed group of Welsh supporters and successful business people who have volunteered to help launch Beatbullying Wales in October 2009, enabling young people in Wales to benefit from our proven work.

Beatbullying Wales will use workshops focusing on sport (BBSports), music (BBMusic) and new media (CyberMentors) to engage young people and empower them to lead bullying prevention campaigns in their schools and communities. Beatbullying has worked directly and indirectly (through our peer mentoring schemes) with 700,000+ young people over the last five years, helping those who are being bullied and re-educating and changing the behaviour of those who bully, reducing bullying in schools and communities.

When Beatbullying intervenes, our independently proven prevention model reduces incidents of bullying by an average of 43% in schools; whilst the reporting of bullying and child on child violence goes up by 60% as young people feel more able to seek help.

The introduction of progressive bullying prevention programmes in Wales will reduce bullying, reduce truancy levels, increase attainment and reduce the incidents of racist and homophobic violence and abuse in our schools.
